The Rotary Clubs of Tehama County work on many projects through out the year. This is an example of the three clubs coming together for the benefit of the betterment of education for today’s youth.
Reading and understanding the written word is vital to the success of our students , which is why Sunrise Rotary along with the Red Bluff Noon Rotary and Corning Rotary have brought the Dictionary Project to Tehama County in a partnership with the Tehama County Department of Education. Together we seek to promote literacy by putting a dictionary into the hands of every third grade child in the county.Getting their own dictionary is something the students look forward to having. Many have heard about them from older siblings, friends or older students. With the project being around since 2006, it’s something all third graders begin to eagerly anticipate well before the group arrives to hand them out.The gift of dictionaries is one that stays with the children long past the initial day they receive it. Many use it as a tool for the whole family to learn new words. Some carry it with them on each new step of life’s journey from college and beyond. This promotion of literacy is made possible in part through community sponsorship and over the years has allowed thousands of dictionaries to find their way into the hands of a new friend.
